Math & Manipulatives

District Math Support Teacher, Bob Benmore , was back today working with some intermediate students utilizing manipulatives. As I have mentioned previously, it is great to get outside support to assist our staff and students with the implementation of new concepts and teaching strategies.

I was fortunate to get into classes early in the day since I had to deal with several other administrative issues most of the day.

By the way, I hope that everyone enjoys the Olympic Opening Ceremony later today.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Olympic Spirit is Here

For those who haven't been around the school it is apparent that the Olympic Spirit is at Gibsons Elementary School. Many of our home-made Olympic torches are on the hallway walls, while some of the bulletin boards have information about the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Today was Book and Bathrobe Day, as part of our Spirit Month. I have asked the students for ideas for next Thursday... I will post it tomorrow!

The Boys' Basketball Team plays at Langdale after school today. It should be a good game, as we had a good practice on Tuesday.

Only one more sleep until the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Have a good night.

Recess Fun

Our students continue to be active at recess. I have posted a few pictures of recess fun here.
More pictures will be added to the Flickr Photostream.

District Math Support Teacher Guest in Ms. Knecht's Class

District Math Support Teacher, Bob Benmore was working with Ms. Knecht's class today. Students were looking at multiplication and division questions and determining how they relate. Algebra was also mentioned-- simply put it is just a way to replace a question mark with a letter that represents a number.

The students seemed to enjoy the challenging questions that Mr. Benmore posed to them.

Thanks for your on going support Mr. Benmore!

Hockey Heros

I had a chance to observe the Hockey Heros Program in action on Friday after school. The students, from Sechelt and Gibsons, are put through the paces by high school students with hockey experience. All students involved in the program seemed to have a great time while developing their hockey skills. Thank you to all who volunteer for this program!
