F for Football

I was invited down to Mrs. Griffith's kindergarten class today and was told to bring my football. I posed for a picture with the class. The children were so much fun! Learning should be fun-- what a great concept.

I am off to Vancouver for some BC Principal Association meetings on the weekend.

All the best to everyone. Have a great weekend.

Four Square Craze

Our students are into a bit of a four square craze, which is great. The rain is holding off but the fields are wet, so a lot of the students were staying on the blacktop at recess today. The high level of physical activity is awesome to see and something that we will continue to encourage.

Until later.

Hwy 46 Student Focused Talkback

Sophy, Megan and Kailyn are representing GES at a district wide forum at the School Board Office-- the topic is Environmental Sustainability & Community Service. Their audience includes the SD46 Trustees, Assistant Superintendent Tom Hierck and Superintendent Deborah Palmer.

These girls were selected because of their passion and ability to articulate themselves. I am sure that they will represent our school well.

I look forward to hearing about their experience.

Until later.

Science Experiments in Ms. Knecht's Class

It was great to see some exciting science projects being presented in Ms. Knecht's class today. The pictures here include determining how much electrical energy a lemon can produce and seeing what happens when olive oil is added to another liquid blue coloured water. The results were great!

The students were very excited about sharing their knowledge. It's great to see how inquisitive our students are.

What a great day of learning!

If your child is in Ms. Knecht's class ask them to explain the various experiments.

Until tomorrow.

Roots of Empathy Program at GES

Miss Owen's class met baby Charlotte and her Mom today, as part of the Roots of Empathy Program. Go to Miss Owen's blog for further information about this exciting program which is being supported by our Community School. Thank you to all who are making this possible.

The letter F

The kindergarten students were working in their books writing the letter "f" and associated words when I visited this morning. They were very proud to share their knowledge. If your child is in kindergarten you may want to ask them for some of the words that they wrote in their book today.

Until later.

Great Day on the Sunshine Coast

Student enjoy their break times at GES. Playing soccer or playing on the adventure playground are two of the activities that our students engage in at recess and lunch.

The weather sure is awesome today. From the sunrise at Davis Bay to the view of Georgia Strait from the upper playground the Sunshine Coast sure displayed her beauty today.

Until later.

Peaceful start to the day.

NWEA for our new students

I have spent time in the computer lab working with our students that are new to SD 46-- they are doing their NWEA MAP Assessment. We have a link for NWEA on our website if you want to find out more about this assessment which is used district -wide.

The data that we get help our teachers in determining areas of strength and weakness. Our district also uses the longitudinal data to see how we are doing over a long period of time.

If your child did the assessment today, please ask them what they thought. It is an adapted assessment so stronger students are challenged, while students that struggle get a chance at success with less challenging questions.

Until later.

Sugar Bowl a Success

Our Division 1 & 2 classes participated in the Annual Sugar Bowl in Sechelt today. Our students played soccer against the other elementary school students in this post-Halloween event.

Mr. Detwiller took some pictures which I will post on my blog once I get them.

I am busy reading through report cards which will be distributed next Friday, November 13th.

I hope that everyone has a great evening.

Until tomorrow.

Reading Certificates

I presented reading certificates to two kindergarten students who have already completed reading twenty books! Bravo girls.

Thank you to all parents who encourage reading at home. It is a great idea to read to your children, but it's also good to encourage them to read to you as well, or to read independently.

Have a great day.

Until later.
