Blow Wind Blow

Mr. Angelus had Mrs. Servos-Sept's class working on a Native hymn , Blow Wind Blow, when I visited his class this afternoon.

I have included a short video of verse one. Enjoy.

Scary Scarecrows

Miss Owen's class did a fabulous job making scarecrows yesterday. For those attending Family Fun Night you'll be able to get a close up tonight.

Just a reminder-- Family Fun Night goes from 5-8 pm. There will be games, a cake walk, raffles and so much more.

I look forward to seeing a good turnout. For your information, any money made at this event will be going to the GES Music Program. We will also be collecting food donations for the Food Bank.

Until later.

The Letter J and Tallying Objects

I visited Mrs.Kopek's class and found out that it was Hannah's birthday. Aside from birthday candles, students were getting ready to do some tallying of objects. The activity will end up producing line and bar graphs. If you child is in this class you may want to ask what they used to represent the objects they were tallying.

When I went to Mrs. Hoechstetter's class there was another birthday girl, Hinano. Their class was working on printing the letter J, upper and lower case. If your child is in this class you may want to get your child to demonstrate how well they can print the letter J.

Everyone is busy engaged in their learning. It's another great day here at Gibson's Elementary!

Until later.

Picture Day

Picture Day was today and it was very busy. Aside from making sure that we had the students in the library for photos, I had a PE class in the gym and I had supervision at recess and lunch. I did manage to get into a few classes for some short visits. We also had a Health & Safety Meeting after school today.

GES was a busy spot today and it seems like it will continue the rest of the week. Tomorrow is our monthly Staff Meeting and we also have our PAC Meeting. I am hoping that we will get a good turnout for the PAC Meeting. It's a great way to get connected to what's going on at Gibsons Elementary and to meet parents of your children's classmates.

I hope that everyone has a good evening.

Until tomorrow.

Special Guest

Lika was Koen's special guest in Mrs. Hoechstetter's class this afternoon.
The children in the class really enjoyed seeing Lika do her tricks-- she was rewarded with special treats.

It is amazing he smiles that a four-legged friend can bring to a room of children.

I will see my four-legged friend Tilley after school today and hopefully take her for a walk.

I hope that everyone is enjoying the sunshine.

Until tomorrow.

The Drum = The Heartbeat

Mrs. Pugh was explaining the significance of the drum in a powwow to Mr. Detwiller's class during Aboriginal Education today.

Did you know that the name for a large drum is Grandfather? The students are learning about various aspects of our First Nations culture through our Aboriginal Education Program.

Our students, staff and parents really appreciate the support that we get from the Aboriginal Education Program, which is headed by their Principal, Kerry Mahlman.

Approximately seventeen percent of GES students have First Nations ancestry. It is very positive that these students, along with the rest of the student body get a chance to learn more about their culture through our school program. If you have any ideas how to enhance this aspect of our curriculum further please don't hesitate to let us know.

Until later.
