Happy Halloween

There were some fun activities going on at GES this afternoon. Some students were in costumes while others weren't. The primary group had a variety of activities going which seemed to be a lot of fun.

I will post other photos on the Flickr photostream spot on the left side of the blog. (To view just click below the small pictures).

I hope that everyone have a safe and fun filled Halloween.

Until Monday.

The Tricia Hunter Story

We had a special guest visit us today-- Tricia Hunter.

She shared her story with our school during an assembly. Tricia has gone through 24 operations to address a birth defect that she was born with. He slide show gave our students a glimpse of her life; trials and tribulations.

The students asked some excellent questions at the end of her presentation.

Her message of hope, understanding, compassion, and going after your dreams was well received.

Ask your child what they thought. It will be a great conversation I'm sure.

Until later.

Buddy Reading

Ms. Knecht's students work with Miss Owen's class regularly. Their buddy reading program is invaluable and both classes benefit. The grade five students gain self esteem and also develop skills like patience and understanding, while the Grade ones and twos get an opportunity to develop their oral reading skills, in a safe and healthy environment.

I know that the teachers are very pleased with the way this year's program is going. If your child is involved with the program please make sure you ask them about this program.

It has been a busy day-- I just finished a P.E. class with Mrs. Hoechstetter's class and it's time to go an d do some class visits.

Don't let the weather damped your spirits. It's still great to get outside and enjoy the beautiful place where we live.

Enjoy the rest of your day and evening.

Until tomorrow.

Fire Drill this morning

We had our first Fire Drill of the year this morning and I was really pleased with our students. We had all classes lined up and attendance completed within 4 minutes of the fire alarm-- Bravo everyone!

I mentioned that we will be doing an earthquake drill next month.

Until later.

Science Experiment

Mrs. Duncan's class was busy doing a science experiment in the hallway today. They were trying to determine the payload that their inflated balloons could lift. Some of the groups had a great deal of success. I have included a few photos here. More photos can be seen on the Flickr photostream.

Have a great day!

Scaring the pumpkins

One of Miss Owen's scarecrows is in the Primary Hallway seemingly scaring the pumpkins.

I am so impressed with the art work that I wanted to share this.

Until later.

Games Crew Providing Leadership

Our Games Crew, under the direction of Mrs. Susan Servos-Sept, was busy organizing a dodgeball game on the outdoor basketball court at lunch time today.

Once a week, the Games Crew works with the primary students offering a variety of activities. Aside from providing a valuable service to the younger students , it gives our students a chance to develop some excellent leadership skills.

Thank you to Mrs. Servos-Sept and the Games Crew for the awesome work that you do at GES.

I sure hope that the good weather lasts. It's time for a Fire Drill, so the students and staff are hoping that the rain holds off.

By the way, Nancy Miller has forwarded me some pictures from Kenya. I originally posted them along with our GES photos, but was able to help Nancy set up her own Flickr Photostream. Nancy has written some excellent blogs and now she has some pictures to go with it. I encourage you o check her blog out-- the link is on our web page.

Have a great evening everyone.

Until tomorrow.

Mr. Sullivan who coaches the students throughout the year, starting with our Running Club which goes every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7:45- 8:30 am, was pleased to hear the news when I delivered him the plaque.

Thank you Mr. Sullivan and congratulations to all of the Track & Field athletes that put Gibsons Elementary back on the map for Track & Field.
