Ukranian Eggs & Aboriginal Education

Mrs. Knecht's class had a treat today, as Mrs. Tattrie helped students make traditional Ukranian Easter eggs. The students were very creative and the eggs looked great.

This afternoon I took two of our students (Taylor & Cheyenne) to an SD 46 Aboriginal Circle Forum on Education, at the Seaside Centre, in Sechelt. Our students did some great work while there and Cheyenne did an awesome job articulating the groups comments to the rest of the audience. Bravo!!!

Tomorrow will be busy with the SD 46 Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Until next time.

Busy Tuesday

Today was another busy day. I had several customers that I had to deal with early on in the day, I taught a PE class, set up some work at Sunnycrest Mall, for Education Week, and was the referee for the girls' basketball game vs Cedar Grove-- it was a good game and the improvement was evident.

Tomorrow afternoon I will be accompanying two students to the SD 46 Aboriginal Education Advisory Circle Forum, which will be held at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt; the student session is in the afternoon from 1:30-2:30 pm. Any parents of Aboriginal ancestry are invited to attend.

Thursday the SD 46 Boys' Basketball Tournament is at Elphinstone and GES, while the Girls' Tournament is on Friday at Chatelech Secondary.

If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions please feel free to give me a call at the office or send me an e-mail at mheidebrecht@sd46.bc.ca.

Enjoy your evening.

Photo Day & Fitness

It was busy with Spring Photo Day at GES today. We had a great day of weather so our pictures were taken outside.

Mrs. Sali's class is doing a fitness unit--when I stopped in the gym they were doing some stretching.

Until later.

Mrs. Miller Returns to GES

Mrs. Miller along with David Williams and Candice Veale stopped by Mrs. Knecht's class this afternoon to share their experiences from Kenya. The slideshow was fantastic and the stories told were moving. They even taught the students how to count to ten in Swahili.

Mrs. Miller, who had been writing letters back and forth with Mrs. Knecht's class, brought back gifts of soapstone art along with a small stuffed koala, from Australia, for each of the students.

Thanks to Mrs. Miller, Candice and David for sharing their experiences with us.

Have a great weekend everyone.

Where's Waldo?

I did several classroom visits today and the students were doing a variety of activities. Mrs. Klan was getting ready to read a story to her Grade 2 class when I stopped by, while Mrs. Sali's class was doing a, "Where's Waldo?" type of activity. They were doing a fabulous job.

I had a chance to have a PE block outside with Mrs. Hoechstetter's class. They really enjoyed the sideline soccer match.

What a great day of weather!

Until later.

St. Patrick's Day Dance @ GES

After a full day of school it is time for our grade 6 & 7 students to host the St. Patrick's Day Dance. The event, which is going on as I post this blog, is going very well and the turnout is great. Thanks to the parent volunteers and the student volunteers who have spearheaded this fundraiser for the Grade 7 year end celebration. A special thank you to the DJ Mr. Sullivan.

Welcome Back

Welcome back! I hope that everyone enjoyed their Spring Break. I enjoyed mine-- I even found some snow in Tuscany.

Thanks to Mr. Sullivan for filling in for me, as I was returning from my vacation from abroad yesterday. Things have been very busy at GES today--my battery is recharged and I am ready to go!

Believe it or not, we had new curtains installed on our gymnasium stage today. A big thank you goes out to the anonymous donor.

Until later.

Parent Teacher Conferences Wednesday & Thursday

Today has been extremely busy for all of us here at GES. We had an early dismissal today (1:35 pm) and we have had Parent-Teacher Conferences starting at 1:45 pm. We will follow the same schedule tomorrow, while Friday is a regular day.

Just a reminder for parents-- if you are unable to make it for a conference with your child's teacher please contact them via phone or e-mail. All teachers have an SD46 e-mail address so it's pretty easy. For example, if you wanted to e-mail me you would send it to mheidebrecht@sd46.bc.ca . Please let me know if you are having any issues connecting with your child's teacher.

Have a great afternoon and evening.

Until tomorrow.

Basketball Game

Our Boys' Basketball Team played Roberts Creek in an exciting game which saw GES trailing RCE until the last 30 seconds of the game when Jordan F banked in a shot to give us a 32-31 lead. The boys defended well and the last few seconds ticked off the clock. The GES faithful left the gym with smiles. It was a well played game.

The boys will be off until after the Spring Break, as there is early dismissal Wednesday & Thursday for Parent-Teacher Interviews.

Have a good night everyone.
