Choral Reading

When I stopped bt Mrs. Hoechstetter's class this morning they had just finished writing out a passage which they read to me. They did a fabulous job! Bravo!!!

Keep up the great job reading.

Speaking of reading, I presented some certificates to several kindergarten students for their reading prowess. It is awesome that so many parents are encouraging daily reading at home. Keep up the good work.

Until later.

More Art & Green Troopers

Ms. Perry had her students making Inuksuks today; similar to the symbol used for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics and Paralympics. More pictures of these can been seen on the Flickr Photostream.

Two of our Green Troopers can be seen keeping our school grounds clean-- an enjoyable way to spend their lunch time.

Lastly I have included another Aboriginal Education picture, that Ms. Pugh is planning on using for a poster-- great job Austin.

We have Grade 3-5 basketball after school today, with both basketball teams having games against Roberts Creek tomorrow. The boys' play at home, while the girls travel to the Creek.

Have a great evening everyone.

Space--The Final Frontier

Mrs. Kopek's students were working on their models of our solar system when I stopped by on Friday afternoon-- they weren'r finished but I wanted to share them on my blog.

The Grade 4-5 basketball clinic, after school on Friday, went really well. The students participating are doing a great job.

Our Olympians are having a great weekend.

I trust that everyone will enjoy the weekend.

Green Day & Castles

We have had a great response to our last Spirit Day of the month--Green Day. We hope to encourage more environmentally friendly behaviour, from how we pack our lunches, to decreasing the amount of water we use and minimizing our carbon footprint. I appreciate the effort that our school community is making to make GES a greener place.

I also wanted to share some pictures of the castles that Mrs. Klan's class made yesterday. More photos can be found by viewing the Flickr Photostream.

Castle Building & Number Building

Mrs. Klan had their annual castle building adventure today. It is a fun event-- family members of the students help build castles. Thank you to all family and friends who came to assist Mrs. Klan today; you too Mr. Klan.

When I went to Mrs. Kopek's class they were building numbers using tokens to represent numbers. If your child is in this class ask them which colour tokens represented ones, tens and hundreds.

I trust that many of you are enjoying the Olympics. I was really impressed with Canadian figure skater Joannie Rochette, who had an amazing performance last night, only days after losing her mother. It will be interesting to see how the Canadian Hockey Team fairs against Russia today. Hopefully our female 2-person bobsleigh team will be successful-- they were leading yesterday and have two runs today.

Go Canada Go!

Enjoy.

Guest Art Teacher visits GES

Mrs. Hoechstetter's class had a treat today with Mr. Mark Sauer, a high school art teacher, teaching the students how to draw people and faces. The students were totally engaged in the lesson and Koen was proud to have her Dad in class today.

Thank you for working with our students today Mr. Sauer!
